Communication Channel And Its Types

Communication channels

Following the three major communication channels depending upon the speed of transmission.

Narrow Band

Narrowband is a term used to describe an internet connection speed that is most commonly associated with a dial-up connection. Using phone lines and transmitting over voice-grade frequencies, the highest effective speed a connection can provide is approximately 56k, which is 56,000 bits per second.

Voice Band

In electronics, voiceband means the typical human hearing frequency range that is from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. It transmits data at a moderate band ate of 9600 bps. The telephone line is an example of voiceband transmission. The fax machine is another example of a voice band

BroadBand

It transmits data at a very high band rate of about 1 million bps. The microwave system operates in broadband channels. Computers and front-end processors are examples.   The term broadband commonly refers to high-speed internet access. The FCC defines broadband service as data transmission speeds exceeding 200 kilo-bits per second (kbps), or 200,000 bits per second, in at least one direction: downstream (from the internet to the user’s computer) or upstream (from the user’s computer to the internet).
